Comparing business bank accounts in the UAE

01_introduction

Most comparisons rank UAE banks as though one is simply better. The right account depends on the licence, the activity, where the signatories are resident and what money actually moves.

02

Which UAE bank has the fastest approval time for new companies?

Fast Bank Account Approval

Digital-first banks are faster. App-based onboarding, a smaller document set, and a complete file moves in days rather than weeks. Traditional banks run a fuller credit and compliance review.
Speed narrows range: a smaller product set and less appetite for complex ownership.

No per-bank timeline is published here, and none should be relied on elsewhere. No UAE bank commits to one, because the timing is set by the file, not the brochure. A complete application moves quickly. The same bank will hold an incomplete one indefinitely.

Is WIO Bank a good fit for a free zone company's first account?

GCG screens the structure against current bank appetite, prepares the compliance narrative and assembles the file before anything is submitted.

Where it fits least well: layered structures, sensitive activities, and owners with no UAE-resident signatory. See Non-resident banking.

Digital-first banks compared with traditional UAE banks

Digital-first: faster, no minimum balance, strong self-serve tools. Thinner on credit, trade finance and complex-case judgement.
Many companies hold both.

That is a deliberate structure rather than a hedge.

Traditional: slower and more costly to run, but they hold the products a growing company needs, and a person will review an unusual file.

Provide the license, the activity and where the signatories are resident. GCG will identify the appropriate bank.

How GCG helps you choose

The table sets out what accounts cost. It does not indicate which bank will approve a given applicant.

1.Who signs.

A UAE-resident signatory with an Emirates ID opens most options. Without one the shortlist narrows sharply. See Non-resident banking.

2. The activity.

The licensed activity, and whether the invoices are consistent with it. Some activities narrow the list to one or two banks before pricing is considered.

3. The money.

Volumes, currencies, counterparties and countries. This decides fit more than any published fee.

GCG pre-screens the structure against current bank appetite before any application is made. Published position and live appetite are not the same, and the first application sets the record.

Wio publishes no non-resident policy, so confident answers stated elsewhere should be treated with caution. From GCG casework across more than twenty applications, Wio expects a resident signatory with a valid Emirates ID, and applications without one do not succeed. A non-resident shareholder behind a UAE-licensed company is a separate question from a non-resident signatory, and that distinction usually decides the outcome. See Non-resident banking.

Closer than commonly assumed. NeoBiz Pro is AED 99 plus VAT, no minimum balance. ENBD Connect is AED 249, no minimum balance. ENBD Prime is AED 99 but expects AED 50,000 on average, and charges AED 150 in any month the balance falls below. The real question is therefore not one bank against the other, but whether a subscription or tying up AED 50,000 is preferable.

Yes, standard across digital and traditional. What differs is the number of currencies, the FX spread and the per-transfer charge. Those three, not the monthly fee, are what matter for paying overseas suppliers.

Appetite varies by free zone as well as by bank, and it shifts. A flexi-desk licence draws more scrutiny than physical premises. Digital banks are generally comfortable with mainstream free zone licences, which is why they are often the fastest first account. GCG checks current appetite per zone before recommending where to apply.

Yes, and running both in parallel is the sensible approach. Keep the original open until the new account is live, funded and receiving payments. Nothing requires closing the first account beforehand.
